"My parents immigrated to the United States about 45 years ago from Quebec shortly after they were married. I am proud of my French-Canadian heritage and travel north whenever I get the chance to visit family and soak up the culture.  We grew up bi-lingual and I will forever be grateful to my parents for teaching us to speak French. My often confused childhood friends, maybe not so much..." -Nancy

Visiting our first Au Pair Kim in Montreal, Quebec.
I live in Vermont, which is just a stone's throw away from the Canadian boarder. Geography as well as biography, have helped me to remember how important it is to be able ship merchandise from Wee Carry, LLC (afford-ably) to both the United States, and Canada.

And so after much e-deliberating, the girls and I decided that we needed to be able to offer free shipping to Canadian Babywearers! We hope that you north of the boarder mamas will approve of our fledgling shipping & handling policy in regards to shipping to Canada.

By the way, please don't mind my too-low sling-rings placement, it was 95 degrees and well, I have no excuse. Ideal ring-placement should be "corsage" level on the chest; which for me, in this picture should have been about three inches higher. I digress...

Hello peeps! I've had about a million requests to elaborate on what I mean when I say I use conditioner on my woolly wraps, so here's my step-by-step instructions. This method is safe and effective for all protein fiber blends such as wool, alpaca, cashmere, and silk. It is still safe but less effective for cellulose fibers like linen, cotton, kapok, hemp, etc. Wool is hair! Hair conditioner conditions hair! Hence, hair conditioner conditions wool.
Picture
1.) Get a scratchy woolly, intentionally or otherwise.

2.) Get thee to thine bathroom and get your hair conditioner (no 2-in-1's, no silicone products please!). Alternatively, if you are a no-poo'er like me, you will have to get thee to thine local grocery store to accomplish same.

Picture
3.) Start with a clean sink! Because, ew. (Tubs, basins, plastic bins will also work). Clean with something gentle, or re-clean with something gentle after something harsh. I recommend white vinegar or a baking soda scrub for metal sinks. DO. NOT. USE. BLEACH. If you miss a drop of bleach product when rinsing, your wrap could pay the price. Plus it's really bad for you.

4.) Fill sink with lukewarm water.

5.) Take a handful of conditioner. More is ok, less is ok, whatever. If your woolly is hella scratchy, use more. If your woolly is mostly soft but needs a boost, use less. There is no wrong amount.

6.) Dissolve under running water. If you have clumpies, swish them around to dissolve. If they don't dissolve, you have the wrong type of conditioner and it is likely comprised of nasty petrolium products. Start over at step 2.

7.) Add wrap starting at one end so it's not in a clump. Gently squish to saturate, or it will repel water and float. Drown that sucker!

8.) Teach your wrappee to do the Funky Chicken.
9.) If your woolly is REALLY scratchy, take straight conditioner and apply directly to wrap. Great globby handfuls of it.
10.) Rub it right in there.

11.) Squish the wrap to move the conditioner around. Gather it into a lump and let it sit for a few minutes.

12.) While that's soaking in, teach your wrappee to Walk Like an Egyptian.
13.) Place wrap back in the conditioner soup.* Gently swish, squish, and move the wrap about in the water. Movement is ok, rapid agitation is a no-no.

14.) Teach your wrappee The Twist.

Picture
14b) (Optional) Get distracted by a bubble bath and your hottie hubby , and completely forget about your wrap soaking downstairs.  Overnight. On your morning to sleep in.   Which your hubby will lovingly let you do until you snap awake at 10am FINALLY remembering your wrap.

15.) Starting at one end, gently squeeze water from wrap and drain.

*Alternatively, you can use fresh lukewarm water at this stage in to rinse. I don't rinse. If you've used a significant amount of conditioner (half bottle or more), you'll probably want to rinse - just be careful to maintain comparative temperatures so you don't felt the wool!

16.) Lay wrap out on clean, dry, fluffy towel. Fold to fit.

17.) Roll up like a burrito.
18.) Practice your beam exercises.
19.) Remove from towel and hang to dry, being sure the wet wrap is properly supported to prevent stretching and sagging. An unused slotted bedframe works well.
Or a second-floor half-wall/bannister.
Picture
20.) Go feed your drama-queen cat, because clearly he is going to die if his food bowl is not full to over-flowing.

Also clean up the mess he made the last time you fed him, and remind him he is not a dog.

Picture
21.) Once dry, iron your wool wrap woolliest side up. Medium heat, low steam. Keep the iron moving to prevent scorching. This will not felt your wrap, so don't be scared!

Use gentle pressure and let the heat and steam do all the work.

22.) Fold prettily and pet! Your wrap is now clean, dry, pressed, and hopefully significantly softer.
23.) Enjoy!

Partnering with Die Wombathohle, of Germany, we are able to offer this pre-order to you for one day only (through Wednesday evening). We apologize in advance for the short notice and very short pre-order time frame, but we only just learned of this opportunity.

We would also like to apologize that our website and shopping cart are not currently running, but we really wanted to be able to offer this wrap in the USA! Wee sincerely hope you will forgive us for the logistical oopsies.

Picture
The Diamond Weave pattern shines as the bright white weft contrasts strikingly over the dark blue (azul capitan) warp of the upper large block stripe. The red and white stripes forming the bottom two thirds of the wrap are  reminiscent of the genius and darling Betsy Ross, and her beloved creation, Old Glory.

This is the perfect wrap to wear all year long, but would be simply divine at Memorial Day, Veteran’s Day and Independence Day Parades and festivities! Have a family member in the military? What better way to show your pride and patriotism than with wearing your wee one in one of these beauties!

Here is a dirty little secret about babywearing. Around 7-10 months many babies go through a period of not wanting to wrapped or worn. My son Beau hit this stage about 1-2 months ago, so he was right on cue, being that he was about 8 months old when the fussiness began.

At first it was a little sad face, then maybe some wiggling during the wrapping process, and as the weeks went by, it morphed into an all out attack on the wrap!

And so for the past two months I had been getting so frustrated and disheartened lately with wrapping my baby. He is now one week shy of being 10 months old and for the past month and a half we have been on a what some might consider a full fledged "wrapping strike".

Have their been more sever cases? Oh yes, I am certain of that. (Anyone want to share?) But it hasn't helped Mama Bear very much...

Picture
He has even taken to crying when he sees me coming with a wrap (unless I'm running it through sling rings, then he wants to play tug-of-war or peek-a-boo), he leg straightens, seat pops, leans, arches his back, wiggles, pulls hair, it's painful.

I have to re-do wrap jobs 2-3 times most days. As a wrap collector and babywearing educator, this left me feeling hopeless; until I decided to put a positive spin on it; I am learning to wrap under the worst of circumstances.

My skills are improving. My tightening is improving. My technique is improving. And yes, even my patience is improving. Also, I am now better suited and equipped to help other moms facing similar wrapping challenges. (And better qualified to make more demo videos on YouTube!) I guess this is one of those instances where attitude is everything!

Sometimes distraction works. Things like baby carrots, crackers, a favorite toy or pacifier can be helpful. Sometimes they work for us, and sometimes they don’t. In the picture at right a nursing (or) baby-wearing necklace did the trick! Whatever is going to be helpful, do it! Just be warned; lollipops once licked are sticky, and seem to be magnetically attracted to hair…

Picture
And for the record, my son Beau is usually fine once up and wrapped and I start moving around. So much so in fact, that he still falls asleep while uppy 75% of the time. So, I get a workout, and some snuggles, it’s a win-win situation! Having a difficult wrappee has made me learn to appreciate each and every time Beau goes “uppy” all that much more.

So ladies, I urge you to have a change of heart, or rather, a shift in attitude, and to cherish every cuddle, every snuggle, and every time your baby lets you wrap him without a fuss, because honey, I promise you, if those days haven't already passed you by; they will wind up on your door-step soon enough!

Have you been there and done that? Is there a light at the end of the tunnel? Please share with us in the comments your story of a fussy wrappee! When did things start to improve? What has worked for you? What helped mama stay calm? Please share your tricks of the trade. Was it food? A toy? How do you keep that seat from getting popped with a leg straightener?

As many of you already know, Wee Carry was founded by four mamas of March 2012 babies; Erica, Jenna, Nancy, and Rene. We have known each other for about 18 months, having met through an expectant mother's group on Facebook, although Erica and Nancy have known each other much longer, having served together in the military.

We all had interest in babywearing, and discussed it often on Facebook.  We came to the conclusion that we would like to do something with this passion we had and began conspiring to open our online store at the beginning of December 2012.  In the past few short weeks, the four of us have become very close friends, while spending many days discussing babywearing, wraps, and our families.

Picture
In the middle of December, Erica was presented with the opportunity of a lifetime. She was able to take over ownership of a store in her area that sells cloth diapers, baby carriers, and other related baby items. Baby Frenzy's owner had to sell, and Erica was lucky enough to be the first to respond.  She made the purchase, and is now working hard daily to get the store and its website back up and running.

Erica has a full time job, as well as being a mom to two, and now the owner of a brick and mortar business.  Unfortunately, this means that she just will not have the time and resources she was originally hoping to devote to Wee Carry. We are all so sad to lose Erica as a business partner, but are thrilled to have gained her as a dear friend.  We sincerely hope that Wee Carry and Baby Frenzy can work together to promote each other to grow and thrive.

We are so happy that Erica was presented with this amazing opportunity, and we all wish her the very best of luck with her store. Please join us in congratulating her on this fantastic news, and "Like" the Baby Frenzy Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/babyfrenzy to get updates on the store's reopening.

Wee Love You, Erica!

I wish I could say that I didn't have mommy brain, and that I always remember everything I need to do, and therefore I didn't have to go to the mall 4 days before Christmas. Unfortunately my brain is mush and I forget everything. I forgot to pick up Tierney's Christmas photos at the mall two weeks ago when they were ready, and of course I want to give them out on Christmas, so I had to go to the mall during the first snow storm of the year on the Friday before Christmas.

I knew I would be waiting at the portrait studio for an eternity, thanks to today being the first day of Christmas break for the schools in my area, so I decided to bring my wrap with me. I got Tierney out of the car in the blizzard and wrapped her in this made up hip carry I learned from Rene that I don't know the name of (maybe one of you out there can enlighten us!). It's very comfortable for long periods of time, but is also super easy to prep at home and pop baby in at your destination.

Once I entered the mall, I was bombarded by mothers yelling at toddlers to hold hands so they wouldn't get lost, giant strollers banging into fixtures and almost running people over, and mothers of small babies just holding them in their arms as they made their way through the overcrowded mall with all their various bags and packages.

I wanted to stand on a bench and just yell, "It doesn't have to be so difficult to go to the mall with your baby!!!!" but it was so loud, nobody would have heard me anyway.  I did get a few wistful looks from disgruntled mothers wrangling their newly walking little ones, and parents trying to squeeze their huge travel system strollers through narrow and blocked aisles.

I honestly don't know how I would do it every day without my wraps and carriers. Today I definitely became aware of just how life-changing babywearing can be for a parent. I made an excellent decision a year ago, while Tierney was still in my belly, and I will never look back!

Natibaby Fucshia Mea looking good enough to eat! Note: the color in this picture is MOST accurate and true-to-life.
Natibaby Wool Mea Fuschia is a beautiful wrap. It is 63% cotton and 37% merino wool. The intricate lace-like pattern runs on the bias of the wrap as opposed to horizontally or vertically. I think this gives the wrap a uniqueness and a whisper feminine, dare I say, perhaps even dainty?
Picture
Mea marks a departure for me, as it was the first pink or purple wrap that I purchased. The color was rish and dark enough for me to feel that Beau could "rock pink". Frankly, I don't know what took me so long; boy or girl, one can wear ANY color and pattern wrap with ANY baby; boy or girl. Getting a little side-tracked here but, wear what you love!

This picture at left displays the four stages of how we do nap time at our house! Are you are curious about the seemingly impossible feat of getting baby to his crib from my back without waking? Watch this video to find out, just note that this video was filmed with my iPhone tucked into the changing table; nothing fancy!  http://youtu.be/04IC2dOdaBs

Picture
This wrap is a dream to wrap with! Super soft, medium thin, cushy on the shoulders, and uber floppy! Oh did I mention supportive?? This particular Natibaby wrap is wider than my other Natibaby wraps. I haven't measured yet, but it's on my to-do list, promise.

I have to say one very important thing about this wrap: PLEASE DO NOT BE AFRAID OF THE WOOL! The merino wool used in this wrap must have been spun by angels or something because it is so soft and not scratchy or itchy in the least. Please trust me when I tell you that it is unlike most anything made from wool you have experienced thus far.

Another common misconception about wool blend wraps is that they are thick and hot. Au contraire mon ami (my parents are French Canadian, and my siblings and I grew up bilingual, so excuse me if I spout off in French randomly)! As I mentioned before, this wrap is quite thin, airy, breathable and would be perfect all seasons of the year. I have worn this wrap in about 78 degree humid weather and felt completely cool.

This is a very forgiving wrap; let me explain, even if you don't get a "perfect" wrap job with Mea, you will not pay for it with pain from pressure points in your shoulders. Somehow, the wraps magical powers perfectly distribute the weight every time, even if my wrap job is far from perfect.

Another feature of this wrap that I find hard to quantify is the fact that I love how it tightens. When I am tightening my fabric passes; whether strand by strand or the classic "L pull" often done with a double hammock carry; everything tightens up and glides into place so easily. But I think the wool content combined with the slight texture of the pattern ensure that Mea is not "slippery" which can be troublesome for a new wrapper and lead to carries drooping.

In closing, I'm sure you've guessed my verdict, Mea is beautiful and useful, a definite keeper!

Ellevill is a Norwegian wrap company. Their wraps are designed in Norway and woven in India. Some of their old wraps were hand-woven, but most today are machine woven. Ellevill is known for having simple wraps, concentrating on the pattern and design of the weave itself as opposed to various shapes, motifs or animals.

Jade is a classic pattern inspired by old Norwegian knitting patterns. This is a jacquard weave woven in fiery red and almost reddish-orange threads. They come together to form a gorgeous, deep, yummy  lipstick red! The wrap is 50% cotton and 50% linen. The linen adds support to the wrap.

Another thing to note about Elevill wraps are their very long and narrow tapers. I personally love them, as they form a tiny little knot, but others may not like this feature. Just something to keep in mind when shopping for a wrap.

Chili had been another long time ISO of mine, and after having recently donated my Natibaby Red Greece wrap to our local babywearing group's lending library, I was feeling desperate for some bright red in my stash. Fellow babywearing online vendor Marsupial Mamas offered a coupon code on in-stock Ellevill wraps, and I pounced!

I honestly had heart palpitations when I opened the box. The color was so gorgeous! It looks like it's woven with shiny silk! And soft right out of the pretty little matching red bag! After a couple quick FWCCs around the house I immediately popped her in the wash on the hand wash cycle with some Euclan and tumbled dry on low with dryer balls.

Out of the dryer Chili had flouffed up beautifully and was much softer already. DS went back in for another FWCC and I immediately noticed what lovely and perfect bounce this wrap has! Odd with 50% linen, but it creates the perfect amount of cush and give. After bath and some milkies uppy Beau went in a DH.

Picture
In fact, he is currently sleeping as I pace around before transferring him to his crib. I was soooooo surprised at the width of this wrap! My other Ellevill wraps are narrow; this one is not; it's more comparable to Nati linen width wise.

Amazing support, awesome grip, and the texture feels silky, odd, I though it would feel scratchy, bug me, or at least make passing the rebozo passes behind my back troublesome, and it didn't! So although I haven't worn Beau in this wrap for an extended amount of time yet in a back carry; my initial report is that it is deceivingly rock solid! Gorgeous and useful: Keeper!

Update: After a nice steam iron to stretch the fabric (and make Chili look fine & fancy for her photo shoot) we gave Chili another whirl. Again, I have nothing but praises for this wrap. Comfy, breathable, supportive, and enough give/bounce to ensure a great wrap. It is gorgeous and makes me want to wrap presents, bake Christmas cookies and sing Jingle Bells all at the same time, while babywearing of course!

The Heartiness brand carries two very different types of baby slings; machine loomed woven wraps and hand woven wraps. Fusion Aero is a hand woven using traditional Russian weaving patterns in a luxurious quad-blend of material. Specifally; the wrap is 55% cotton, 30% merino wool, 10% silk and 5% cashmere.

A handwoven Heartiness was a long time ISO of mine. (ISO stands for in search of and is a common phrase babywearers use when talking about a wrap they are well, in search of!) I had been browsing the Heartiness website and message board for a few months when I finally got lucky to snag a "pre-order" of Fusion Aero.

Picture
Ok, I'm ready to review Fusion; I love this wrap. The End. Just kidding!! I wrapped my nine m/o babe three times today with this wrap. I wanted to try 3 different carries to get a good feel for it so I did FWCC, DH and BWCC with a chestbelt (albeit a very sloppy one).

I absolutely LOVE this wrap. The most similar wrap in my stash as far as "feel" goes would be my super-soft wool Mea, but this
is thicker and has more cush.

It has just enough grip to be able to say that this wrap is not slippery, but the passes still glide beautifully in a DH (double hammock). I was able to get a nice, deep seat and tight wrap each time.

Picture
My little babe is around 20 pounds (guessing?) and he felt totally great in this wrap, not as supportive as Natibaby linen, but not saggy in the least bit either.

This wrap has not been washed yet, but today as it stands, it is quite breathable. I was cooking in front of a hot stove with
this on and I felt great.

Update: after a bath, Fusion fluffed up so very nicely! If possible, it is now even softer and squishier than before! Though I plan to wrap Beau in this beauty until our babywearing days are through, this would make a great squish wrap too! [Oh, "a squish" or "squish" is the term for a newborn baby in the babywearing community. It took me a while to get the nag of the lingo, but now it's second nature.] Verdict: (Unless someone wants to  trade me for a Heartiness Milkyway or Navy Dragon), this is instant perma-stash/Keeper!
